How much does the PMP® exam cost?
As of October 2026, PMI®'s U.S. store charged $405 for the PMP exam if you're a PMI member and $655 if you aren't. Membership was $139 a year at the same check, which makes the member route $111 cheaper on the first attempt alone.

02Does membership pay for itself?
On exam fees alone, yes. A non-member pays $655. A member pays $405 plus $139 for the year, $544 in total, so joining saves $111 before anything else happens. If you need a retake, the member price is another $100 lower: $275 against $375 (PMI store, U.S. prices, as of October 2026).
The order of purchases matters. PMI's Certification Handbook says member rates apply only if you held membership before paying for the certification, so join first and pay second. Membership also unlocks a free PDF of the PMBOK® Guide, according to PMI's standards page.
